The University of Salford is a technological University based one and half miles from Manchester that has a rich history stretching back to 1896. The University offers an exceptional learning environment for students, with strong opportunities in research, innovation, enterprise, employer and community engagement. The University has three colleges: Science and Technology, , Health & Social Care, and Arts & Social Science, and has over 20,000 students.

The Salford team consists of researchers from Informatics and the Built and Human Environment. Research in the Built-Environment has been ranked number one in the UK in terms of research power by the UK Government's Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) since 2001. Research on Informatics, which was submitted under the information management panel, received the highest possible 6* rating in the UK Government's RAE in 2001 and was ranked second in RAE'2008 in terms of research power. The University has recently established the innovative Salford Energy Hub in which multi-disciplinary teams of researchers can work collaboratively with business and the community to develop products, technology and systems to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings.

Role in the project:
Provide expertise in machine learning, lead work package 5 and provide experience of increasing uptake of energy reduction technologies.
